Final Animation

An explanation of my animation is simple. i tried to rbring together all what i thought of fence. Because we couldn't be literal it made things harder to portray. The first section was truely inspired by the Get Smart opening sequence. The noise of clashing metal was the main source of inspiration and was my decision for the opening animation and the choice of material.

The second part was what i wanted to bring alive what i felt the people felt during the Holocaust. Fear, trapped and confusion being apart of it. Fear being a bit hard to portray in an abstract way, i concentrated on confusion and trapped. The maze was a good way of portrayal and remembering a part in one of the Harry Potter movies i thought a maze would be perfect. The choice of material was important because i didn't want it to look scary but pleasing to the eye.

The third and last part was meant to look inviting and very beautiful. But also suffocating and deceiving as it decends on you that you feel trapped in the chaos of these beautiful cloths/material.

I hope you enjoy the translation of the term fence

15 Pictures

These pictures are to explain my thought process to the combined video

A Fence could look inviting, what's behind it can look so beautiful and the fence can magnify the beauty.

The way i see a fence is explained in my 50 words. I denote it as fear and entrapment. This picture is symbolic of someone always watching.

The Holocaust was a main source of underdstanding fear and therefore the term fence. The time in history was an extrememly sad event and everything about recollects fear and entrapment.

These bodies were being lined up like fences, a barrier. So sad.

These pictures brings in the image of a fence into this world of barriers and being trapped into the lives of these sufferers

The book, The Hiding Place is a main source of understanding of what these people went through. This image is captured from the movie of that book. Their faces says it all really...haunting and memorable.

These next pictures are explaining what a fence can really do to a person. Although you are on the outside, are you really safe?

When you are trapped you are very much lonely.

So to me fence is:

  • fear
  • trapped
  • lonely
  • deceiving
  • inviting
  • haunting

The term FENCE brings many images to mind, it reminds me of specific books or movies that I have come in contact with. The way I see the term FENCE is FEAR. It is a boundary that one cannot get out of; you become scared and frightened because you feel suffocated.
